Safety First—Lead Paint Removal You Can Trust

Even though New York City banned lead paint in 1960, many homes still have undetected lead paint. With NYC’s expanded lead-based paint testing rules, you might need certified lead abatement for your property. Handling lead paint is dangerous—avoid the risks and choose certified lead removal services from a trusted and EPA-approved source.
At Selva Lead Abatement, we use advanced techniques to safely remove lead-based paint from your property. Our methods minimize risks and disruptions, while ensuring safety:
  • Wet Scraping: We soften the paint with water to reduce dust, then carefully scrape it away, keeping hazardous materials contained
  • Wet Sanding: Ideal for antique furniture and architectural details, this method controls dust while sanding to remove lead paint.
  • Chemical Stripping: We use special chemicals to remove lead paint without damaging the surface beneath.
  • HEPA Vacuuming: We use HEPA vacuums throughout the process to capture and remove any leftover lead dust, ensuring a clean environment.
  • Encapsulation: Where suitable, we apply a coating to seal lead paint, preventing it from chipping or becoming airborne.
  • Replacement: If surfaces are too damaged or risky to treat, we replace windows, doors, or other components to fully remove lead hazards.
New York City has some of the toughest laws on lead abatement. The Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) now requires all residential homes to be tested for lead-based paint within a set timeframe. If lead is found, property owners or landlords must hire state-certified lead abatement contractors. All painted surfaces must be tested for lead:
  • By August 2025 Within 5 years of NYC Local Law 31 of 2020.
  • Sooner If a child aged six or younger lives in or is moving into the home.
  • Between tenants Before new tenants move in.

All lead removal services must be performed by certified technicians like our experienced team.

  • Area Enclosure We keep the work area contained to prevent contamination.
  • Plastic Sheeting To prevent cross-contamination.
  • Removal of Hazardous Material We use techniques like wet scraping to safely remove lead paint.
  • Work Area Clean-Up After the job, we clean thoroughly, using HEPA vacuuming to remove any remaining lead dust.
  • Confirmation Dust Wipe Sampling We ensure your home is lead-safe and meets all regulations.
